TL;DR

  • Grok Bot calling is announced, not documented: Musk wrote that it "can now call someone or a business for you, make a request on your behalf, take notes on the response and send you a note summarizing the conversation!" [Musk on X]
  • Claude Duet doesn't call or text other people; [Help Center] OpenAI Dots take calls from you but can't call you at launch; [OpenAI] Muse: not stated. [Meta]
  • No vendor states rules for AI disclosure, recording consent, regions or call pricing. Test before you trust a phone agent.

"Not stated" means the official pages we read on 26 Oct 2026 don't say. No ranking or scores. Earlier, on 18 Oct 2026, Musk shared a user-built Grok Bot that books restaurant tables by phone. [Musk on X] Claims that Grok Bot can wait on hold, press keys or be transferred while you watch a live transcript come from third-party posts and aren't confirmed in official docs, so they are not in the table.

Eval checklist for phone-calling agents

Use this before you let any agent dial on your behalf. It is a checklist, not a score.

  • Approval gate before dialing. The agent should show who it will call, the number and what it will ask, then wait for your OK. Check that a denied approval really stops the call.
  • AI self-identification. Listen for whether it says it is an AI acting for you, near the start of the call.
  • Consent and recording. Recording and consent laws vary by country and region. Find out whether the agent records, whether it asks the other side, and follow the rules where both of you are. We make no legal claims beyond what the sources say.
  • A test script you can run. (1) Have it call your own number and check the caller ID, greeting and disclosure. (2) Ask it to phone a business during opening hours with a simple question, such as today's closing time. (3) Try a call with a hold queue or a transfer and see whether it waits, hangs up or reports back honestly.
  • Check the summary against the real call. Compare its notes with what was said on your own test call. Look for invented details, missed answers and wrong times or prices.
  • Opt-out and do-not-call behavior. Check that it ends the call when asked, doesn't call back unasked, and respects "don't call this number".
